Employer of Americans who are blind and visually impaired endeavors to improve inclusivity with digital accessibility.

DURHAM, N.C., Apr. 24, 2019 – LCI, one of the largest employers of Americans who are blind or visually impaired (BVI), announced today the launch of its new Technology Services division. LCI Tech Services provides digital accessibility testing and consulting solutions for organizations in the public and private sectors, including commercial, higher education, nonprofit and government customers.

The new division combines decades of business experience with an innovative approach to accessibility. By providing digital accessibility testing and consulting solutions, LCI is improving inclusivity, assisting corporations in building value for their brand and supporting employment for those with disabilities.

“With LCI Tech Services, we have a unique opportunity to provide testing for people with disabilities, by people with disabilities,” said John Samuel, head of Tech Services. “We have a goal of hiring people in technology-based jobs, but we also want to ensure we are creating meaningful careers for our team members. For too long, members of the BVI community have been underestimated and it’s my goal to raise awareness of our capabilities.”

LCI began offering technology consulting services in June 2018 by providing digital accessibility consulting solutions for the Raleigh Little Theatre. Since then, LCI has completed several consulting projects, including digital accessibility audits for Downtown Raleigh Alliance and PineCone, two local organizations that have fully implemented the recommended changes to make their website inclusive for all.

“At LCI we are committed to providing meaningful careers and upward mobility for the BVI community,” said LCI President, Jeffrey Hawting. “Through LCI Tech Services we can leverage technology support as a driver of employment, while leveling the digital divide that reduces access to information for Americans with disabilities. We believe there are several exciting opportunities to grow our service offering, and we are ready!”

LCI Tech Services plans to expand their service offerings beyond digital accessibility testing and consulting solutions. In the near future, LCI Tech Services plans to begin offering customer service and call center solutions, leveraging their extensive experience in customer service and building on existing work. This service offering will allow organizations to build value for their brand through an improved customer-service experience while supporting employment for those with disabilities. Additionally, LCI is exploring opportunities with a scheduling application partner, to provide support for clients looking to implement a technology solution to their staffing scheduling needs.
